No Insurance Ticket for Driving Without Proof of Insurance

Operation of an Uninsured Vehicle:
Illinois law requires that you keep proof of insurance with you at all times when operating a motor vehicle. See 625 ILCS 5/3-707.
- You must present proof of insurance to a police officer when requested to do so.
- Failure to present proof of insurance, regardless of the reason, is considered to be guilt of the offense of operating a vehicle without insurance.
The following are considered violations of the statute:
- Your insurance card is at home.
- Your insurance card expired (regardless of whether the policy is valid).
- Your insurance company did not mail you a new card.
Penalties for Driving Without Insurance:
- A third or subsequent offense results in the suspension of your driver's license.
No insurance tickets are very common in Lake County traffic courts, including traffic courts in Park City, Mundelein & Round Lake. You are best served by consulting with a lawyer about your ticket.
