Illinois Driver's License Suspension / Revocation
Suspension or Revocation of Driver's License:
The Illinois Secretary of State may suspend or revoke your driver's license for the following:
- 3 traffic offenses within a 12 month period; or
- repeated traffic law convictions which indicate disrespect of traffic laws. See 625 ILCS 5/6-206(a)(2) & (3)
Special Rules Applying to Persons Under 21 Years Old:
The Illinois Secretary of State will impose a suspension or revocation if the person has committed 2 offenses against traffic regulations within a 24 month period. See 625 ILCS 5/6-206(a)(34)
A point system is used by the Illinois Secretary of State to determine the length of any suspension or whether to impose a revocation.
There are certain limited circumstances under which you may be eligible for a hardship driver's license which would allow you to drive to and from employment.
