Driving while your license is suspended or revoked is a Class A misdemeanor for which you can be sentenced to pay a $2,500.00 fine and, also, serve 364 days jail. The fact that you didn't know your license was suspended or revoked is NOT a defense. Lake County traffic court judges will require you to retain a lawyer to represent you.

  • Three (3) moving violations in twelve (12) months will suspend your Illinois driver's license.
  • Drivers younger than twenty-one (21) years old: Two (2) moving violations in twenty-four (24) months will suspend your Illinois driver's license.
  • Driving without insurance tickets will suspend your driver's license.
  • Driving while license suspended or revoked is NOT a traffic ticket. It is a CRIMINAL offense.
    • The Secretary of State will double the length of your suspension or revocation if you drive again.
    • The State of Illinois can impound and make you forfeit the car--even if it belongs to your spouse or family.
